Appointed 5/7/2019:

 

Vanessa Cutler – Principal, Golden View

Vanessa has been Interim Principal at Golden View Elementary School since September of 2018. Prior to that she was Assistant Principal at Quail Run Elementary school for the past two years. Before joining the administrative team at SRVUSD, Vanessa was an elementary teacher in Dublin Unified, Castro Valley Unified and Soledad Unified. Throughout her career, Vanessa has made many contributions to the schools and communities she’s served, eagerly taken on leadership roles and professional growth opportunities, and forged strong relationships with staff, students and families.  She has a strong background in Response to Intervention and strongly believes in the importance of working together with all stakeholders to support the whole child, for social, emotional and academic growth.  Vanessa graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership.

 

Carolyn Dobel – Principal, Live Oak

Carolyn is returning to the SRVUSD administrative team following a three-year stint in Pleasanton Unified as Vice Principal at Pleasanton Middle School.  Prior to that, Carolyn was a Special Education Program Supervisor with the District for two years and a Resource Teacher at Live Oak for seven years. Carolyn also taught at Hayward Unified and at St. Philip Lutheran School in Dublin. As Assistant Principal, Carolyn demonstrated the ability to think critically, build relational trust among colleagues, and provide effective ongoing support to students, staff and families. Her familiarity with the Live Oak community and SRVUSD, combined with her extensive experience as a Special Education teacher and Program Supervisor, will make her a strong and compelling new addition to her school community and our administrative team. Carolyn earned her B.A. and Master of Science degrees from Cal State University, East Bay.

 

Sylvie Bullard – Sycamore Valley

Sylvie joins Sycamore Valley Elementary and the SRVUSD team from Burton Valley Elementary School in Lafayette where she has been Assistant Principal since 2016. Prior to that she was an elementary teacher for ten years at Wagner Ranch Elementary School in Orinda. Sylvie’s leadership accomplishments include working with and coaching new and veteran teachers in Readers and Writers Workshop and initiating a schoolwide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support System. She has coached teachers to engage in the constantly evolving strategies of ‘workshop,’ helping to encourage students in the areas of curiosity, creativity, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration, and has served as a master teacher and induction provider for several credential candidates and new teachers. Sylvia received a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Spanish from UC Davis and a Masters degree in Developmental Teacher Education from UC Berkeley.

 

Bridget Vorhees – Principal, Charlotte Wood

Bridget has been serving as Interim Principal at Charlotte Wood Middle school for the majority of the 2018-19 school year. Prior to that, she was an Assistant Principal within our district at both the middle and high school level for the last eight years, most recently serving at Iron Horse Middle School. Prior to working in SRVUSD, Bridget served as Vice Principal at Walnut Creek Intermediate School and was a high school teacher and Activities Director in Acalanes Union High School District for 5 years. Bridget's extensive leadership experience at multiple levels have prepared her well for her new position.  As interim at Charlotte Wood, Bridget has worked capably with staff to support and promote student engagement and excellence, developing PLC’s within departments and common formative/summative assessments, analyzing data and creating plans for students who struggle to meet proficiency standards. She holds a B.A. in Health and Human Performance and a Masters of Arts degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Saint Mary’s College.

 

Megan Keefer – Principal, California High

Megan joins California High as Principal after serving as Assistant Principal within our district for the last four years, most recently at San Ramon Valley High. She began her career in San Ramon Valley Unified as an English teacher at Monte Vista High School in 2005.  In 2007, she transferred as an inaugural staff member to Dougherty Valley High School where she served as an English teacher, Curriculum leader, and Teacher on Special Assignment until her return to Monte Vista as an Assistant Principal in 2015.  Throughout her tenure, Megan has earned a reputation as an authentic, present and capable leader who values building relationships and exploring and developing systems. She influences and inspires others to achieve greatness and inspires a strong sense of hope and empowerment in the students with whom she works. Megan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and her Master of Arts in Teaching (Social Science and English) at the University of New Hampshire, Durham.

 

Miguel Villarreal – Director, Child Nutrition & Warehouse

We welcome Miguel from Novato Unified School District where he has been the Director of Food and Nutritional Services for the last seventeen years. Miguel has more than twenty-five years of experience in leading K-12 child nutrition programs, bringing extensive knowledge in school food service management, including budget, purchasing, staff supervision, training, implementation of local and regional food systems policy and practice, and capital asset management. Under his leadership, Novato Unified’s Nutritional Services Department has been transformed into a nationally recognized model for providing quality and healthy food to students. Miguel is passionate about teaching young people that healthy eating and active living will help them lead successful and happy lives throughout adulthood.  A leader in his field, Miguel is known in his professional community as a change maker who looks beyond his scope of work to dream of better opportunities for students and to make those dreams a reality. Miguel received his B.S. in Food and Nutrition from the University of North Texas and his Master of Business Administration from East Texas State University.

 

Appointed 4/16/2019:

 

Annabel Hurlburt – Principal, Tassajara Hills

Annabel joins Tassajara Hills Elementary from Live Oak and Quail Run Elementary Schools, where she has served this year and last as Assistant Principal.  During her tenure, she has forged very strong relationships with staff, students and families, led work around Response to Intervention, and provided leadership and support for academic and behavioral supports with students and campus safety. Prior to joining the District in August 2017, Ms. Hurlburt was a reading intervention specialist at Mary Farmar Elementary School and a 4th grade teacher at Robert Semple Elementary in Benicia Unified School District. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in Political Science and from Touro University with a M.A. in Educational Technology.

 

Osi Juergens – Principal, Vista Grande

Osi joins Vista Grande Elementary from Diablo Vista Middle School where she has capably served as Assistant Principal for the last five school years. In her role as Assistant Principal, Ms. Juergens has been a leader in instruction, inclusion, digital citizenship, restorative justice and school safety. Prior to joining Diablo Vista, she was an English, History and Physical Education teacher at Foothill Middle School and taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades at Hidden Valley Elementary in Mt. Diablo Unified for many years. She is thrilled about returning to the elementary level as a site principal. Ms. Jeurgens earned her B.A. in Liberal Studies from San Francisco State University and her M.A. in Educational Leadership from Saint Mary’s College.

 

Rose Bright – Principal, Del Amigo/Venture

Rose Bright joins us from Vallejo Independent Study Academy where she has been Principal since 2016. In her role at Vallejo Independent Study Academy, Ms. Bright supervised the expansion and revitalization of the District’s Independent Study Program. She brings a wealth of knowledge to her new position having experience in College and Career Readiness, Technology Integration, Professional Development and New Teacher Support, as well as Curriculum and Instruction, Support of At-Risk Students, and Accountability and Community Building. Prior to her work as principal of Vallejo Independent Study Academy, Ms. Bright was an Assistant Principal at Vallejo High School and at Martinez Junior High in Martinez Unified.  She also worked in West Contra Costa Unified as an English teacher, a teacher librarian, and an instructional specialist. Ms. Bright holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Late Medieval and Renaissance Studies from UC Santa Cruz, a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from San Jose State University, and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership at St. Mary’s College. Her vast experience, leadership and zest for learning will be a benefit to the Del and Venture communities.

 

Chris George – Assistant Director, Secondary Education

Chris is currently serving as Principal at California High School where he was appointed Fall 2018, following a strong and successful 8 year tenure as Principal at Charlotte Wood Middle School. Prior to that, Chris was Assistant Principal at Iron Horse Middle School for 10 years.  Chris has a history of building deep and positive relationships with students, staff and parent communities and in leading and implementing cutting-edge, student-focused initiatives at his schools. He is very enthusiastic about the opportunity to extend his leadership at multiple school sites next year through his new position.  Chris has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Master’s degree in Education from Cal State University, Hayward.
